2014 Serie A Enel season inches closer

The top Italian Beach Soccer league, men and women, is set to begin May 29th, with Coppa Italia and Supercoppa coming up soon, too

The beach soccer season in Italy, one of the countries where beach soccer is more deep-rooted, anticipates again a complete set of emotions and competitions. Italy has already established itself as a beach soccer powerhouse in part due to their longstanding high quality league play and pure love of the game, but this season brings the excitement to new levels with coaching changes, player transfers, and the chance at Italian Beach Soccer immortality.

The busy and emotionally charged season in Italian land will begin with the Coppa Italia which is to be held in San Benedetto del Tronto on May 29th going until June 1st, and the expectations this year could not be higher. Sambenedettese won the Coppa in 2013 and over the past six seasons five different teams have won.

Barletta, Belpassese, Canalicchio, Catania, Catanzaro, Friuli, Italica, Juventus, Lamezia Terme, Livorno, Mare di Roma, Milano, Sambenedettese, Terracina, and Viareggio will all jostle for positions and look to win the coveted league title. 2013 was a spectacular season with Milano winning the league in a very close match against Terracina. In what should be expected from beach soccer, the unexpected, 2013 saw three teams win the three separate titles.

Less than two weeks after the Coppa Italia is awarded, Serie A will begin in Terracina between  the 13th and 15th of June for the 1st leg of the South Division as well as the first women´s matches. The 1st leg for the North Division will be held from June 27th to the 29th in Lignano Sabbiadoro, along with the women´s division. The second legs for the South and North divisions will be held in Calabria and Mina di Pisa between the 4th and 6th of July and the 11th and 13th, respectively.

The final leg for the North Division will be in July as well, from the 18th to the 20th in Viareggio. The South Division next plays in Montalto di Castro between the 24th and 27th of July. The stop in Montalto di Castro will also be the Serie B playoff and the women´s final. Catania, no stranger to beach Soccer events, will host the Serie A Final and the Super Coppa from the 31st of July to the 3rd of August. The Super Coppa recently has been dominated by Terracina, who have won the last four years, but Catania could possibly win their fourth overall title in the now 11 year history of the Super Coppa.

In addition to the full season of league beach soccer, Italy will also host the Euro Winners Cup in Catania from the 3rd to the 8th of June. The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2015 Europe Qualifier will also be held Jesolo from the 2nd to the 14th of September.
