Bahamas set for European friendlies

Angelo Schirinzi’s side are involved in a number of warm-up games taking place this month.

A series of beach soccer friendlies are due to be played across the world during the remainder of July, with FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup hosts the Bahamas involved in most of them.

Angelo Schirinzi’s side are currently in the middle of a six-week training camp in Europe, as they prepare to make their FIFA event debut, and secured a third-place finish at the recent Nations Cup in Linz.

Tuesday also saw a visit to FIFA headquarters in Zurich and the Bahamas will step up their preparations with fixtures against Italian club sides Lazio, Viareggio and Pisa this week.

Lazio will be the first test for Schirinzi and co on Friday before European and Coppa Italia champions Viareggio provide the opposition on Saturday.

Pisa, who finished fourth at the Coppa in Catania this year, complete the Bahamas’ Italian trip, before the national team return to Switzerland for back-to-back friendlies against Schirinzi’s home nation Switzerland.

The coach has played for and trained the Swiss over recent years and the two countries will meet in Neuchatel on July 26th and 28th, having already played one another twice this year in friendlies back in April.

Bahamas lost the first of those matches 13-3 with a somewhat experimental side before going down 9-6 a day later and they will hope to maintain that steady improvement as they close the month with a friendly against Tahiti.

Elsewhere, Thailand face Iran in Sari on July 25th as the visitors prepare for their Continental Beach Soccer Tournament campaign in Ordos next month.
