Bahamas, Switzerland play out friendly draw

There was no separating the two sides in Basel as they contested a 12-goal thriller.

The Bahamas continued their six-week European training camp with a creditable 6-6 draw against European powerhouses Switzerland on Tuesday.

The match in Basel saw Angelo Schirinzi’s home nation, ranked sixth in the world, go up against his current coaching project the Bahamas, who are preparing to feature at their maiden FIFA event on home sand at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup next year.

Following narrow defeats to Italian club sides Lazio, Viareggio and Pisa Beach Soccer in recent days, Bahamas stepped up their training with a competitive friendly against a strong Switzerland team that included regulars such as Hodel, Spacca and Misev.

After Bahamas fell behind to Werder’s opener, a Misev own-goal levelled matters before Spacca and St Fleuer got on target.

Williams put Bahamas in front for the first time while St Fleur added a second prior to Leu’s goal in an action-packed contest.

Another from Williams and one from Darling helped put Bahamas on course for victory as they amassed a 6-3 lead, only for the Swiss to eventually show their experience and draw level.

Wittlin, Spacca and Leu were the men on target late on to help the hosts salvage a draw ahead of the sides’ second friendly on Thursday.

The match will offer the Bahamas another chance to continue their learning curve under Schirinzi while Switzerland will look to build momentum ahead of their appearance at the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal in Catania next month.
