Barcelona Beach Soccer Cup officially presented!

The Catalan Capital will host the best beach soccer clubs from the 1st-3rd of May for the playoff event

May 1st-3rd is an important date to mark on your calendar. It will be the Barcelona Beach Soccer Cup, and it is the inaugural event. The format will be win and advance, or lose and watch from the stands or the couch. The teams are set and they are some the most recognizable and talented teams in the world. The teams are as follows: FC Barcelona (ESP), Valencia CF (ESP), Sporting Clube de Portugal (POR), Boca Juniors (BRA), CR Flamengo (BRA), Lokomotiv Moscow (RUS), Bate Borisov (BLR), SK Galatasaray (TUR).

The competition was officially presented today, at the FC Barcelona Sport Center, with the presence of Jordi Cardoner, FC Barcelona vice-president, Maite Fandos, deputy mayor of the Barcelona City Council, Ramiro Amarelle, FC Barcelona captain and coach, and Alex Soriano, event director. 

 

The draw was also held at the event presentation, setting up the fixtures for the quarterfinals, as well as the way to the cup. FC Barcelona will be taking on FC Bate Borisov, Lokomotiv Moscow will face Boca Juniors, Sporting Clube Portugal will combat Galatasaray and Flamengo will take on Valencia.  

Barcelona is a world capital, a jewel of the Mediterranean, and has been long overdue for a top flight tournament such as this. The city is renowned for its beautiful beaches, spectacular views, ethereal mountains, and sublime architecture, which will all serve as a utopian backdrop for this prestigious club event. The site itself, for the sure to be amazing action, will be at the famous Olympic Port, designed for the wildly successful 1992 Summer Olympics. The trendy Head and Heart of Catalonia is the perfect setting for beach soccer and general fun, which is why the anticipation for this competition is through the roof. 

This will be the first beach soccer event to be held in the City of Counts and it will not disappoint as the eight teams are all leaders in their respective national leagues and they will all gladly do battle for the title of World’s Best. The pressure will be on the hosts to perform well and they are more than prepared for the task. Barça has had a busy past few months getting ready for the showdowns, including exhibition matches in Nigeria at the BSWW Copa Lagos 2014 and a friendly against Qatar at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2015 – AFC Qualifier Qatar. Furthermore, all the aforementioned matches were wins for the Spanish Club giants, effectively putting a scare in the upcoming competition.
