Belarus, Azerbaijan taste Siofok glory

The two Division winners will head to Catania next week.

Belarus wrapped up a perfect weekend at the Euro Beach Soccer League in Siofok with an 8-4 win over Romania to ensure a place at the Superfinal.

After causing upsets against Russia and Portugal, Marco Octavio’s men were expected to pick up a win against rock-bottom Romania and duly delivered despite being given brief scares.

After Liviu’s opener was quickly cancelled out, Romania’s threat proved limited, as Bryshtel and co ensured maximum points in Hungary.

The opener came about in impressive fashion as Liviu made the most of a poor clearance to lob Makarevich.

The goalkeeper made amends when he found Samsonov, who headed in the leveller, and then put his side ahead when he found the bottom corner with a goal kick.

Miranovich and Bokach scored either side of the first interval but Bogdan kept Romania in touching distance with a powerful close-range finish.

Tase produced a fine effort to beat Makarevich and keep the comeback on track only for Bryshtel to continue his impressive form and glance in Belarus’ fifth.

Then it was Boata’s turn to be caught out by a looping effort, Kamzolau angling a lofted header over the Romanian goalkeeper, before Bryshtel’s second effectively wrapped up the points.

Bokach registered his second, with Maci’s fine overhead kick proving a consolation, while Italy finished top of Group A, Division Two despite losing to Ukraine on penalties.

A normal-time win for Ukraine and a swing in goal difference could have seen them top the group but Corosiniti cancelled out Medved’s opener, sending the game to extra time and then penalties.

Hladchenko saved from Palmacci to send the point Ukraine’s way, although Italy will look ahead to a Superfinal appearance in Catania.

Russia made certain of second place in Division A, Group One with a dramatic 4-3 win over old rivals Portugal on Sunday.

Top spot had eluded the world’s two best sides but Kryshanov, Krash and Shisin were on target after Alan had opened the scoring for the world champions.

Jose Maria and Belchior levelled for Portugal but Shishin struck the decisive blow three minutes from time.

Azerbaijan made certain of their place at the Promotion Final in Catania with a 3-0 win over hosts Hungary.

The sides boasted 100 per cent records throughout the competition and knew that top spot would guarantee first place and a ticket to Sicily.

Two goals at either end of the opening period set them on their way while the hosts were beaten again when Renat completed the scoring in the final stages of the second period.

Hungary will have the chance for revenge, as they also head to Catania having been one of the best-placed runners-up.

Earlier, Germany moved past Poland and into third in Divison B at the Euro Beach Soccer League in Siofok with a convincing 6-2 win on Sunday.

Poland – impressive in defeat to Italy on Saturday – started well and moved 2-0 up inside the first six minutes.

However, Germany grew into the game and, with the help of a Biermann brace proved too strong for their opponents, as Bulgaria avoided bottom spot in Division B, claiming a 5-4 win against Denmark thanks to M. Zhivkov’s winner.

After an action-packed first period that saw seven of the nine goals scored, Raedkjaer was able to drag Denmark back on level terms only for M. Zhivkov to make the most of his side’s numerical advantage and fire the winner.

Bulgaria finish third in the second tier while Denmark end the leg in Siofok bottom.
