Brazil claim Suramericano U20!

The Verdeamarela edge Argentina from the penalty kick spot as Paraguay clinch third

Brazil added a new honour to their never-ending list of trophies yesterday. The Verdeamarela edged Argentina in the penalty kick shootout of the final to claim the CONMEBOL Suramericano U20, held at Playa Pocitos, in Montevideo (Uruguay).

After a terrific fight, in which Lucas Xavier equalized for Brazil Ponzetti’s opener for Argentina, Castelo Branco’s lads proved better aimed from the penalty kick spot. Willamy sent his attempt home after the Albiceleste were unable to do so, and gave Brazil the gold in the competition.

Paraguay snatch bronze

Paraguay made it very clear in the game for the third place. The Guaraní bent Colombia with a blunt 8-1 win.

The tournament’s top scorer, Carlos Benítez, was in hand for the Albirroja once again, scoring three more goals in the game, thus getting to his 20th hit in the week.
