Chargers claim Swiss Cup

Following a great performance, the Basel-based side bent League winners Sable Dancers in the final last Friday

The Swiss Cup changed hands this last weekend, following a stout win by BSC Chargers Baselland over defending Swiss League BSC Sable Dancers from Bern. The chargers, with Swiss Internationals Philip Borer and Sandro Spaccarotella in their ranks, together with English star Mitchell Day or Brazilian Bernardo Botelho, gave their opponents no option this last Friday in Thun.

Despite the efforts by Angelo Schirinzi and Tahitian Internationals Charles Labaste and Raimana Taiarui, the Chargers proved too solid, and cruised to the glory with goals by Spacca (3), Dario Sailer (2), Bernardo Botelho (2), Yvo Roos and Day.

The Chargers have been performing at a high level in the last stage of the competition, storming past all their opponents in the play-off stages. After hammering Beachkings Emmen 12-2 in the quarterfinals, the Basel side clearly bent one of the biggest teams in Switzerland and defending Cup winner, Grasshoppers Club Zurich, in the semi-finals, thus earning their spot in the final of the competition.

In turn, Sable Dancers reached the Cup decider after tighter victories: 3-5 against BSC Bienne Hatchtes I in the quarterfinals, and an even narrower 4-5 against BSC Havana Shots Aargau in the semi-finals.

Now, the battle for the Swiss Suzuki League goes on, with a new stage taking place this coming weekend in Arosa, and the next one in Birr, before the finals, in Spiez, between 4th and 6th of September.
