Coppa Italia 2015 set to begin

The first official event of the Italian season will take place from May 28 to May 31 at the Carlo Guarnieri Beach Arena in Terracina

For three straight years the Coppa was held in Darsena di Viareggio until last year when the stop was made in San Benedetto, where Terracina was crowned the 2014 champion. Like all previous editions, the Coppa Italia del Beach Soccer is organized by the  FIGC-Lega Nazionale Dilettanti. This year, from May 28th to 31st fourteen of the sixteen teams in the Campionato NLD will compete on the sand of the Carlo Guarnieri Beach Arena in Terracina. Lamezia Terme and Catanzaro BS are the only teams that will not be competing this year. The teams are seeded 1-8, with the previous winner, Terracina, holding the number one spot, and the first seed plays the eighth, two plays seven, and so on. After the first day, there will be the quarter-finals, followed by the semifinals and consolation semifinals.

Terracina has already been confirmed as an ideal place to have such a beach soccer event and the hosts are more than happy to take on their opponents on their home turf this year. The first day is scheduled for Thursday, May 28 starting at 10:30. The four day event will finish on the 31st, with every team playing four matches and having match for every place from 1st until 14th, so there will be no doubt as to who the Coppa Italia king will be. Milano has won the Coppa more than any other side, with three championships, followed closely by Catania with two titles, and two as well from Terracina.

The first match of the season is Sambenedettese vs Anxur Trenza, which is a rematch of the first round matchup of last seasons’ Coppa. A year ago, Sambenedettese beat the Anxur Trenza side with a score of 5-0. The Samb also won the SuperCoppa in 2014 but that match was a narrow 4-3 victory over Milano. At 11.45 begin another exciting challenge made in the south with Città di Villafranca facing Barletta, and even more interesting is that the teams have never met. At 13.00 Viareggio will take on Livorno.  At 14.30 the Catanzaro of Giuseppe Procopio faces Catanese. The two squads have met only once in the history of the sport, in the Montalto di Castro stage in 2014. At 15.45 it is Milano vs Canalicchio Catania’s turn to do battle. Then comes Catania vs Pisa which kicks off at 17.00. The day closes with the defending champion and hosts, Terracina, facing a young Udinese side at 18.15.
