Corinthians and Vasco da Gama claim glory in Brazil

The Timao bent Santos in the final of the Campeonato Paulista, as Vasco earn first ever Women’s Brazilian Championship

Brazil giants Corinthians added a new honour to their records this past weekend, following a bright win over state-rivals Santos in the final of the Campeonato Paulista de Beach Soccer, which took place at the Parque Praia do Sol at the Represa de Guarapiranga, in São Paulo.

The Timao gave Santos little chance, and with braces by João Santana and Xepa, plus tournament’s MVP Antonio Junior’s contribution, sealed a 5-1 win that pushed them to the title, thus securing their place in the coming Campeonato Brasileiro.

“It was a wonderful achievement”, Antonio Junior explained. “Besides the trophy, we also secured a berth in the National Championship. It is also a title for our crowd, for our people, who were awesome all the time”.

In the game for the third place, Nacional secured bronze following a tight win over Portuguesa.

Vasco da Gama, first champion!

One week before, Vasco da Gama clinched glory at the first ever Women’s Campeonato Brasileiro de Beach Soccer, following a tight win over Vila Nova, from Espírito Santo (4-3). The hits by Azevedo, Nicole, Suzane and Cacau had the Trem Bala da Areia securing the gold in this maiden edition of the Women’s Brazilian Beach Soccer Championship.

São Pedro earned third, thanks to a loud win over Flamengo, as Avaí secured fifth place after edging Vitória.
