Costa Rica overcomes 3 goal deficit for dramatic win

Uruguay and Costa Rica played a magnifcent match in their only meeting in Manchester as one late goal decided the game

The 5-4 victory over Uruguay for Costa Rica was thrilling from end to end with both teams refusing to give in. Uruguay began the match quickly, jumped out to a three goal lead, only to see it evaporate by the final minute of the final period. The match also included some stupendous individual efforts, specifically from Johnson of Costa Rica who netted four goals. The two teams will not face each other again in Manchester though Costa Rica will face England for a three game series beginning on Sunday.

Uruguay asked much of their keeper in the opening frame and he responded brilliantly by saving everything while the offense gave him some added security with one goal. The period ended with the South Americans leading 1-0. Early in middle frame Costa Rica found themselves down by three goals and they took the challenge to erase that deficit by scoring three straight and the second period ended tied at three. The final frame was all important with the score tied and neither team holding any substantial momentum. The Uruguayans and Costa Ricans exchanged goals but nothing was decided until the final minute when Johnson from Costa Rica scored his fourth goal of the match to give his team the lead and the win.
