El Salvador, champions of the UNCAF Cup

The first Copa Centroamericana de Futbol Playa was held on the Costa del Sol, El Salvador and the hosts claimed the title over the weekend

El Salvador was crowned champions of the first ever Copa Centroamericana de Futbol Playa (UNCAF Beach Soccer Cup), a competition they hosted in la Costa del Sol during last weekend. A high scoring final, along with an even higher scoring consolation match, left the Blue and White in front of Costa Rica, with Guatemala taking 3rd place and Belize rounding out the top 4.

The Cuscatlecos played their final match with and extreme unrelenting force as they marched to a big victory. The hosts were pitted against Guatemala, but the way the El Salvadorians played, not many teams could have matched their intensity. The Cuscatlecos finished on the right side of an 11-2 victory. They held the Guatemalans to one goal in the first period and were up 6-1 after one period. The middle frame saw the Chapines limit El Salvador to only two goals, but they scored only one of their own, taking an 8-2 deficit into the final period. The final frame was all El Salvador and they closed out the game on a 3-0 run, and the match ending with a score of 11-2.

The 3rd place match had a whopping 24 goals and it was never really in doubt. Costa Rica started fast and took an 8-0 lead into the second period against Belize. The Ticos held the commanding lead but were not satisfied and managed to balloon their lead to 14-1 going into the final 12 minutes. The final period had the Jaguars score four goals but they also allowed another five goals to the Costa Ricans, putting the final tally at 19-5 for Costa Rica. Costa Rica finished second in the Cup based on goal differential with Guatemala, as both teams finished with 4 points.

The Salvadorans not only took home the inaugural cup but they also had the leading scoring, Velasquez, who finished with eight goals in the three games and subsequent victories for the hosts.
