Energia SC Gyöngyös too much for Bonyhád BFC in Hungarian final

Hungarian National Beach Soccer League, the NSL, finished an important 2015 over the weekend with a big finale between the country’s best clubs

The MLSZ Hungarian Beach Arena was the sight for this past weekends’ championship, eventually won 9-3 by Energia SC Gyöngyös over Bonyhád BFC. Hungary’s National League has set the standard very high for their title matches as last year had a tantalizing penalties end to the season, and the improvement of Hungarian beach soccer was clearly evident. The atmosphere in the arena, built up on the shores of Lake Balaton, was tremendous every weekend of the season, the spectators saw brilliant goals and memorable performances, and the Hungarian Beach Soccer Federation showed-off their young talent to the public, making sure the fans know how bright the future really is.

Similar to last year, ENERGIA SC Gyöngyös relied heavily on Hungarian players but also on the talent of international stars: the Swiss dynamo Stephan Meier, the Portuguese world-champion Rui Coimbra, his former team-mate Vivo Duarte, and the Brazilian Bruno Mailas Mendes. There were plenty of surprises throughout the year, such as last years’ champion Goldwin’s losing in the semi-final against Bonyhád BFC, in addition, that match was one of the most exciting games in the whole championship, with penalties being the decider. The last day of the competition was a celebration of the sport with several different finals. The best teams from the under 15 and the under 19 leagues played for their own championship’s and a gold medal, all the while Tamás Weisz, the head coach of the Hungarian National Beach Soccer Team was watching the games, looking for talented players whom he could eventually call-up to the National Selection.

Goldwin Pluss did win the Championship in 2014 but this year they found themselves in the 3rd Place Match and were good enough for a 6-0 win. On top of all of the action on the pitch, there were a slew of awards for splendid play on the sand given after the final whistle sounded and below are those Individual Award Winners:

NSL MVP: Viktor FEKETE – Goldwin Pluss

NSL Best Goalkeeper: Szilárd SZABÓ – Bonyhád BFC

NSL Top Scorer: Viktor TÚRÓS – BFC Siófok

FairPlay Team: JUNIOR SPORT Szeged
