England and Costa Rica battle to high-scoring draw

The first ever meeting between the two nations was a thrilling match that has set the bar high for the next two clashes

The 6-6 draw for England and Costa Rica was immensely exciting with loads of goals, saves, drama, and a comeback to boot. The two teams exchanged goals in the early going and then late England made a charge and took a commanding three goal lead, only to have it disappear in a dramatic final period. This was the first time the two teams had faced each other and they will continue their three game set on Monday.

The Three Lions displayed some great passing skills in the opening minutes of the match though their crosses and runs went unfulfilled. The Costa Ricans capitalized on those missed opportunities by the British and scored the first goal of the match. England regrouped to score two straight although the Central American squad countered to tie the match at two going into the first break. The middle frame was just as energetic as the first with both teams scoring once and the score remained tied going into the last frame. England stormed out to a three goal lead with the help of the third and fourth goals from Mitchell Day. Costa Rica was unfazed and just as they had done against Uruguay, the comeback kids turned a three goal deficit around and tied the match late.
