England and Switzerland to vie for crown

Perfect performances have the English and the Swiss earning a berth in the Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup final

Impressive England end Spain’s reign

England booked their place in the Euro Beach Soccer Cup final against Switzerland with a 6-1 win against former holders Spain on Saturday.

In what proved a tight contest early on, braces from Gemma Hillier, Sarah Kempson and Molly Clark helped England pull clear and ensure a shot at the title on the final day.

The sides went into the first interval level after Selene Alegre cancelled out Hillier’s opener but it was from there that Perry Northeast’s side began to show their quality.

In their second game of the day, having beaten the Netherlands earlier on, England showed little sign of fatigue as Clark and Kempson got their first goals of the day in the second period.

With England in a healthy lead, Spain began to fade late on as Hillier, Kempson and Clark each grabbed a second to set up a final date with last year’s runners-up Switzerland.

Goals: 0-1: Hillier, min. 10 (1); 1-1: Selene Alegre, min. 1 (1); 1-2: Clark, min. 6 (2); 1-3: Kempson, min. 2 (3); 1-4: Hillier, min. 8 (3); 1-5: Kempson, min. 6 (3); 1-6: Clark, min. 2 (3)

Switzerland earns spot in the final

The Swiss National side earned the right to fight for the Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup in Nazaré, after staying perfect in their second game of the group stage, against the Czech Republic.

The Czechs had landed in this Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup Nazaré with a sweet taste. Their win over Greece, despite a slight late uncertainty, had given them the the chance to play for a place in the final, but Switzerland proved too strong for them.

Kehrli and Maurer opened the score to give the Alpine an early advantage, with Morger adding on to the advantage with the 3-0 before the first break hooter. Grueter made things even clearer for Switzerland and, despite captain Mody managed to pull one back for the Czechs, things were pretty much under control for the Swiss.

Schenk sealed the win for the Alpine in the third frame, with the fifth for her side, thus confirming that Switzerland will take on England to see who becomes the successor of Spain as the queens of Europe.

Goals: 1-0: Kehrli, min. 10 (1); 2-0: Maurer, min. 6 (1); 3-0: Morger, min. 0 (1); 4-0: Grueter, min. 2 (2); 4-1: Mody, min. 1 (2); 5-1: Schenk, min. 8 (3)
