FIFA release new coaches manual

The guide features the most up-to-date insights into the technical and tactical aspects of the game

As the race for places at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017 hots up, coaches from around the globe have been given the opportunity to tap into a wealth of knowledge with the release of a new FIFA manual and USB stick on the sport.

Packed with the most up-to-date insights into the technical and tactical aspects of the game, the guide, released on 19 August, takes into account trends in the game on show at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 and more. As well as building on analysis from FIFA’s Technical Study Group, it also giving special attention to goalkeepers, following recent adjustments to the Laws of the Game. However, they are not only designed for Beach Soccer alone, but as guides for players and their skill development, making them applicable to 11-a-side football too.

The manual and USB stick are the result of work put in by four elite names in the game, chosen for their considerable expertise. Two were outfield representatives, namely Spain’s Ramiro Amarelle who appeared at five Beach Soccer World Cups, winning the adidas Golden Ball in 2008 and who is also a figure invested in the grassroots of the game, and Angelo Schrinzi, player and coach of Switzerland at four World Cups. The goalkeeping perspective was provided by Claude Barrabe of France – who also coached Madagascar to continental glory – and Diego Monserrat, who wore the colours of Uruguay at the World Cup.

“The new manual is a follow-up to the first edition, which particularly goes into greater depth in terms of the new tactical requirements of beach soccer,” Schrinzi explained. “Furthermore the new video sequences included as part of it are of the highest quality and explain all the exercises perfectly. The manual is a perfect tool for beginners, but also for advanced Beach Soccer coaches.”

“With the assistance of these four different FIFA experts, we focused on the new trends in the game, both technically and tactically,” said Brent Rahim, FIFA Beach Soccer and Futsal Manager. “For example, looking at goalkeepers, who are like the No10 in Beach Soccer.

“There is also the physical preparation of Beach Soccer players, and most importantly, grassroots and youth Beach Soccer, which for us, is critical in the development of grassroots and youth players, with regards to the technical abilities of both boys and girls. For instance, the scissor kick and sideways scissor kick are both techniques that are often used in Beach Soccer, which can easily be transferred to the 11-a-side game.

“We believe that this manual and USB will go a long way to the further development of Beach Soccer all over the world.”

The new manual and USB stick are being distributed to all six Confederations and 211 FIFA Member Associations, as well as being available at all FIFA Beach Soccer coaching courses.
