Devotion for Beach Soccer is spreading further day after day, and it is becoming more and more necessary to create organized competitions to respond to this passion everywhere. The Beach Soccer family have delightedly welcomed the birth of the first Beach Soccer League Championship in Guatemala (Campeonato de Liga de Futbol Playa de Guatemala), which has recently experienced its first match week in Campo Marte. The excellent attendance to the spectacle thoroughly proved that Beach Soccer has lots of adepts also in that American country.
This first season of the Guatemala regular league is to get 14 teams involved, which are to face each other in a Round Robin format competition. The teams ending in the first two positions of the table will directly get access to the semi-finals, in which they will play against the winners of the play-offs between the teams ranked third and sixth, and fourth and fifth, respectively. Fixtures will take place weekly, always at the federation facilities of Campo Marte, in Guatemala City.
The opening ceremony of this exciting new competition was conducted by the UNCAF president and FIFA Beach Soccer board Member Rafael Tinoco, together with Gerardo Paiz and Héctor Trujillo, members of the Executive Committee of the Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala (Guatemala National Football Federation).
