Italian Women’s Championship set for 5th edition

The female season will begin on July 23rd in Catanzaro Lido and finish on August 6th in Lignano Sabbiadoro

Italy has long had a splendid beach soccer league, however, beginning in 2007, the Italians started a Women’s National League. This year there will be two groups, A and B, participating in 2 Regular Stages, followed by a Final in Lignano Sabbiadoro. The first two stops on the season will be in Catanzaro Lido from the 23-26th of July, and the second event will be from the 30th of July to the 2nd of August in Lido di Camaiore. Last season the FIGC – National Amateur League had a single stage, in Montalto di Castro.

2006 marked the first time the Female Division was created in Italy, however on an unofficial basis, though it was such a resounding success that the following year, 2007, was the first official year for the Women’s Championship in Italy. The hiatus for the female counter-part of the Men’s Serie A, from 2008-2009, created an even greater buzz for its return in 2010, and this year will be the 5th overall Championship, and third in a row.

The two divisions are A, teams situated in the North, and B, consisting of teams in the South. Two teams from each group, the winner and runner-up from the qualifying stages, will reserve their spot in the final. The final four teams will battle in accordance with, but just before, the Serie A Men’s final.
