Japan: October’s Movers of the Month

Marcelo Mendes’ men are into the top 10 after impressing in Santos and Danang recently.

Japan are beach soccer’s movers of the month for October following an impressive second-place finish at the Supercopa da Nacoes in Brazil and success at the Asian Beach Games.

Marcelo Mendes’ side finished behind eventual winners Brazil in Santos after beating Italy and Mexico – the latter with a comprehensive 8-0 scoreline – and move up three places to eighth having also claimed continental success in Danang.

Japan were also in friendly action ahead of the Samsung Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup in Dubai, showing plenty of positives in their narrow defeats to Hungary and Russia.

Oman are another side on the move this month, with their run to the final at the Asian Beach Games across September and October enough to push them into the top 10.

European champions Ukraine and Mexico slip to 11th and 12th respectively while Brazil’s home Supercopa triumph sees them swap places with Italy inside the top four. World champions Portugal remain top of the pile ahead of Russia.

Lebanon, fresh from their third-place effort in Danang, enjoy a 12-point rankings boost and move into 18th with fellow Asian sides Thailand and Vietnam jumping nine and three places in turn.

There will likely be plenty of movement at the top end of the rankings in November, with eight of the world’s premier sides competing at the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup over the course of the next five days.
