Lokomotiv Moscow spread Christmas cheer at Russian hospital

The beach soccer players visited a children’s cancer ward in Moscow this weekend.

Beach soccer players from Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow made Christmas an extra special experience for a number of sick and ill children on Sunday when they paid a visit to a cancer ward at a hospital in the Russian capital.

The Give Life Fund helps children and young adults who suffer from cancer and hematological illnesses by raising funds for treatment and rehabilitation as well as gaining publicity, promoting blood donation, providing social and psychological care and facilitating the work of volunteer groups in this area.

The fund is the official charitable partner for the Dmitry Rogachev Federal Research Centre of Paediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology in Moscow and Sunday saw a host of Lokomotiv players – many Russia internationals – put smiles on the faces of young patients at the centre by bringing gifts and participating in activities.

Ilya Leonov, Yuri Gorchinskii, Anton Shkarin, Egor Shaikov, Anatolii Peremitin and Andrei Melnikov were the players to attend and, after handing out presents to the children, took part in an indoor match with the kids.

The experience was made extra special for the children as they were given gifts, medals and autographs by the players, who helped provide a welcome distraction for the sick youngsters during the festive period.

The centre also cares for sick children in neighbouring states and regions, with fellow beach soccer sides such as BSC Krystal and Spartak Moscow regularly visiting hospitals, orphanages and boarding schools across the country to give something back to their communities throughout the year.
