Miami hosts beach soccer spectacular

A coaching seminar, a friendly match and a clinic were all held in Florida last weekend.

Beach soccer took centre stage on the Miami sands this past weekend as local club FBS FC held a coaching clinic for local children following their friendly game against the Bahamas national team.

These activities took place at the same time as the city hosted a beach soccer coaching seminar for all CONCACAF national teams – held by FIFA Beach Soccer instructor Angelo Schirinzi.

Bahamas coach Schirinzi then took to the dugout as his side – hosts of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup next year – took on FBS FC in front of a bumper crowd including the American club’s youth players and their parents.

Following the game, a coaching clinic was put on for local youngsters, with more than 500 people present in total across the day.

“FBS FC stands for Futbol, Beach Soccer, Futsal Club,” Farberoff explained. “Motivated by Beach Soccer Worldwide during the Mundialito de Clubes in 2011, myself and Oscar Gil – at the time teammates in the US Beach Soccer national team and the Seattle Sounders – had the idea to be pioneers in the US on how to teach the youth to play beach soccer.

“We created a soccer school for kids with the intention of developing youth soccer players with innovative ways by teaching the players to play on all three surfaces; grass, sand and hard court.

“Events like this are great for young kids learning the sports and really get the region enthused about beach soccer.”
