Recoba: “Beach Soccer is very demanding, but it’s great fun”

Two assists in his debut on the beach for “el Chino” helped Racing Club win the game against Cerrito on extra time

Alvaro Recoba had a notable debut on the beach. The former Uruguay eleven-a-side star hit the sand for the first time this last Tuesday, playing for Racing Club in the Uruguay National Championship. After being side-lined by a foot injury in the first match in the competition, Recoba could finally make his debut at Playa Pocitos.

Racing beat Cerrito 4-3 on extra time, and “El Chino” had a lot of influence in the score, as two of the goals by the white-and-green were born in his privileged left foot.

After this first contact with the sand, Recoba highlighted that: “Beach Soccer is extremely exhausting! You do not realise when you see it from outside, but when you start running, the sand is so tough on your legs…”.

“I am very happy, because I had a lot of fun, and this is what I expected when I decided to join the competition”, el Chino added.

Miguel Aguirrezabala, the coach of Racing Club, made a positive evaluation of Recoba’s debut on the sand: “I knew I was sending him to war… I knew it would be tough for him at the beginning, but with his great class and technique, he brought on some magic passes that helped us win the game”.

After this first match, Recoba will come back to the pitch on Saturday, when Racing Club will take on Malvin, with Brazilian star Bruno Malias, in the definition of the Campeonato Nacional.
