Swiss firepower outshines Hungary

Switzerland and Hungary staged an exciting friendly match in Basel, Switzerland on the 15th of July

The 7-5 win for Switzerland over Hungary was a great display of offensive prowess and defensive mettle with both teams showcasing both. The superstars came to play as well and as is the case with all great players, they showed up when it mattered most for their team.

The match opened with four straight goals by the Swiss, the last two by one of their strongest new weapons, Noel Ott. The 4-0 lead was quickly cut in half as Mark Ughy, scored two of his own to shift the momentum back into the visitors’ favour going into the first break. The Hungarians could not maintain the energy and conceded two quick goals to La Nati in the second period, before getting one goal back from Viktor Fekete. The next goal would prove to be the most important as another goal from Hungary would change the entire outlook of the game, but on the other hand, another goal from Switzerland would put the game nearly out of reach for Hungary.

The man of the match, Noel Ott, sank his third goal of the game and in scoring the 10th goal between the two teams, gave his Swiss side a four goal lead going into the final period. The Hungarian fortitude and pride was evident in the final frame as their defense allowed zero goals and they scored two of their own to get within two goals; however the deficit proved to be too large as the Swiss held strong for the 7-5 win.
