The awakening of finest Beach Soccer in Nigeria

Copa Lagos brings the first top-notch event to the coutry and lights the way for the sports development in the area

The fast growing Lagos is ready to harbour one of the most flashing spectacles worldwide. With the Copa Lagos taking place by its shores next December (16th to 18th), the Nigerian capital becomes the globe’s hotspot of the amusingly dynamic and spectacular Beach Soccer, and welcomes such a top-flight event to happen for the first time in the country.

The Eko Atlantic City, in Victoria Island, will witness the full-throttle action of the most spectacular version of “The Beautiful Game”. So to make it happen, four top teams will bring onto the sand all the skill and high pace that comes with Beach Soccer. Together with hosts and African traditional powerhouse Nigeria, the fathers of the sport and four-times FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup winners Brazil will lead a dramatic fight also featuring European icons England and South Africa, another of the most beach-soccer supportive countries in the African panorama. 

This first Beach Soccer International event ever gets to Nigeria as the sport has already acquired a prominent place in sports global showcase.  Since its first steps in the Copacabana Beach in 1992, Beach Soccer has grown healthy and constantly, accomplishing goal after goal, beating landmark after landmark to find its place among the most followed spectacles all over the world. 

Africa becomes, then, the ultimate horizon for the sport’s final boost. In such a football-loving territories, crane to impressive athletes in all disciplines, the possibilities remain endless for Beach Soccer to grow as the heartbeat for the sport begin to be felt in the continent.  Experts noticed it a long time ago, and many strategic moves have already been done to backbone this bright future. In the last year, FIFA has already settled different Courses and Seminars in Beach Soccer coaching and techniques, being the last ones in Madagascar and Uganda. And many more are to come in the upcoming months and years.

Highest-class competitions like the Copa Lagos and the every time more outstanding performances by African sides at the top-flight competitions become the best support to that empowering plan which heads for other eight International events in the next four years.

The whole Beach Soccer experience
