Uruguay end on a high in Montevideo

The hosts ensured fifth place at the Sub-20 event ahead of Saturday’s semi-finals.

The bottom six positions at the CONMEBOL Sudamericano Sub-20 Futbol Playa were sorted on Friday with hosts Uruguay tying up fifth place.

Uruguay came out on top 3-2 against Venezuela in extra-time in Montevideo – Jose Consenting grabbing the crucial goal 90 seconds from time as the home nation ended on a high.

Earlier, Bolivia ended in seventh after amassing a dominant 6-2 victory against Peru with the help of an Eduardo Ardaya brace, after Ecuador avoided bottom spot by beating Chile 6-4.

Ecuador finish ninth, with only the top four spots left to be decided ahead of Saturday’s semi-finals.

Brazil face Colombia in the first of the semis before Argentina take on Paraguay for a place in Sunday’s final.
