World Cup preparations continue in the Bahamas

Meetings are taking place this week to continue planning for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017

Preparations for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017 in the Bahamas are continuing apace this week with a series of meetings being held between beach soccer officials, FIFA representatives and local organisers.

The showpiece event will take place between April 27th and May 7th next year and, while many of the teams are yet to qualify for the competition, work is continuing behind the scenes in the hope of making this FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup the best yet.

The week-long series of meetings and workshops saw a recap and an analysis of the state of play within departments such as marketing, media, finance and competitions as well as discussions on the next steps to take.

A visit to the venue was also included where stadium construction boss Bruce La Fleur explained how progress is going with the new 4,000-seater stadium, which will be based on the Nassau side of Paradise Island Bridge.

Talks also took place regarding venue operations, event management and the upcoming CONCACAF Qualifier – to be held in the Bahamas – as the countdown continues to what promises to be a spectacular tournament both globally and locally.

Among those at the meetings were Joan Cuscó, CEO of FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and FIFA Beach Soccer Committee Member, Jaime Yarza – FIFA Events Manager – and Bahamas Football Association president Anton Sealey.

Jeffrey Beckles, Head of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, and FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Director Gabino Renales were also present, with Mr Cusco in particular keen to express his delight at the progress being made.

“These meetings are vital to ensure we have a top-class competition in the Bahamas next year,” he said.

“We’re delighted at how things are going in the build-up to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and will keep working hard, with all parties, to ensure this competition is the best of its kind to date.”
