II Juegos Bolivarianos de Playa are almost here

The Peruvian beach of Huanchaco has been readied for these Olympic Games from the 7th-12 of December

8 spectacular teams, six days of raucous action, and throw in one team making their international debut, and you get the second Juegos Bolivarianos de Playa. Bolivia will be appearing on this grand stage for the first time and will have their work cut out for them as they will be competing against some of the best in Peru, Chile, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Ecuador, and El Salvador. The bi-annual Olympic event has already garnered much respect in the international community and this second edition will surely do much more for the reputation of the event and the nations involved.

 

The five competition days will surround one day of rest as the players will be in top form for the crucial semi-finals and final. The festivities will commence with three days of Round Robin play, with the eight sides split into two groups. The two best teams from both groups will advance to the semi-finals on the 11th of December. A third place match, with a bronze medal on the line will happen on Friday the 12th, just before the grand finale for a gold medal.

 

2012 marked the first time the event was staged and Paraguay went home with bragging rights and the gold. They are back and ready to defend their title. The thrilling final from 2012 was between Paraguay and Venezuela and the final score was a testament to how exciting it actually was, 6-5 in favour of Paraguay. The third place match saw Peru overpower El Salvador 5-3 en route to a hard-fought bronze.
