2 hat-tricks spur England to victory

England and Uruguay faced off in an exciting opening match of three to come at the ITV Fever Pitch

The 8-4 win for England over Uruguay was an offensive outpouring with a late game rally from the Uruguayans that was too little too late. The game was very close for most of the first two periods until the English side opened the flood gates and took a big lead into the final frame. Two English players, Corbett and Clarke then each scored their 3rd goal of the match, giving them a large late game lead. A two goal push in the last period was not enough for Uruguay as the deficit was too large at that point. The two teams will play the second of three matches against each other on Wednesday.

England opened the match with a determination to score and set the tempo. They did just that and scored twice in the opening frame while conceding one goal to Uruguay. Uruguay was forced to use their goalkeeper much more in the middle frame than the first one and the ball began bouncing the Three Lions´ way as they added three more goals to their total. The South American squad knew they had to battle back and they added one more goal in the second period as well, bringing the score to 5-2 going into the last period. The final frame was extremely competitive as Uruguay used the opportunities they were given to score twice but England also scored three stopping the comeback before it could gain any traction.
