Asian World Cup qualification draw completed

The AFC Beach Soccer Championship teams now know their fate ahead of the competition in Malaysia.

The group line-ups for the AFC Beach Soccer Championship in Kuala Lumpur have been confirmed, with the prize of a FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup spot on offer for three teams.

With European and African qualification already concluded, and Tahiti and hosts the Bahamas also guaranteed a place, Asian qualifying will take place between March 4th and March 11th in Pantai Batu Buruk, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.

Iran, Japan and reigning champions Oman represented Asia at the 2015 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Portugal and the holders were drawn in Group B to begin the defence of their title against Lebanon, Uzbekistan, and Thailand.

Japan, runners-up to Oman in 2015, are looking to claim a third title following their wins in 2009 and 2011, and have been draw in Group C alongside 2007 and 2008 champions United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Qatar.

Meanwhile, 2013 champions, Iran will meet Bahrain, China, hosts Malaysia and Afghanistan in Group A.

All the group winners and the best runner-up from across the three pools will progress to the semi-finals with the top three teams overall representing the continent in the Bahamas.

The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup runs from April 27th to May 7th.
