Brazil reedit Liga Sudamericana

The Verdeamarela, forced to seal the win at the penalty kick shootout after Paraguay U20’s wins

It was not easy for the Brazilian National Team to extend their reign at the Liga Sudamericana de Fútbol Playa, organized by CONMEBOL

In the final of the competition, held in Encarnación, Paraguay, over the weekend, the Senior and U20 National Teams of Brazil and Paraguay squared off in a double-leg tier.

The defending champions had to fight to retain the crown, and needed two wins to equal the results achieved by the U20 Team of the hosts. The 2-1 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday by the Guaraní youngsters the forced the Verdeamarela to win their two games in regular time if they wanted to keep their chances.

And so they did. In the senior tier, Brazil bent the hosts on two occasions (6-5 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday) and the title was to be decided from the penalty kick spot.

The defending World Champions proved infallible from the 9-meter distance, thus clinching the Liga Sudamericana Cup for the second consecutive year.
