Bala Azul first to progress from Euro Winners Cup Preliminary Round

The remaining seven Euro Winners Cup qualifiers will be revealed on Sunday.

Group A

FC Delta hit their opponents for 10 for a second game running, this time brushing aside SK Bosnia Online EU Teplice 10-1.

David Cerny got Teplice’s only goal of the game, as the Russians proved too strong, Melo Rangler Igor Matheus grabbed four while Olivieira de Sousa weighed in with a brace of his own.

Delta and BSC Artur Music sit joint top of the table, after the Ukrainian side also hit double figures in their 11-3 win against Littoral BS Dunkerquois.

After a tight opening frame, Artur Music pulled clear in the second with the help of two further goals from hat-trick hero Egor Eremeev along with two from Oleg Zborovskyi.

Zborovskyi would also go on to register a treble, setting up a fascinating top-of-the-table encounter on Sunday, with a place in the final competition at stake.

Group B

Benfica sit top of Group B going into the final round of preliminary matches after a crushing 10-3 win against A.P.S Napoli Patron on Saturday.

The Portuguese side were five goals to the good before the first interval with the help of a brace from Joao Ferreira Goncalves, before Georgios Maridis pulled one back for the Greeks.

He would be joined on the scoresheet by Nikolaus Tsimpitsis and Dimitrios-Alexandros Mikelatos but Benfica proved too strong, finding the net with regularity as regular internationals Nuno Belchior and Paolo Palmacci grabbed two and three respectively.

Spartak Moscow and Rostocker Robben were involved in the first penalty shootout of the competition, the Russians prevailing 3-2 after the sides ended 4-4 in normal time.

Sven Korner, who hit five goals on Friday against Casa Benfica de Loures, struck a hat-trick against Spartak and looked to have won the game with his eight of the competition, two minutes from time.

However, Edu Suarez levelled with 21 seconds to play, prompting a shootout that saw Torsten Dahnke falter from the spot.

Group C

Vitoria FC kicked off their Preliminary Round campaign with an emphatic 7-1 win against Littoral BS de Panne.

Bruno Goncalvez, Goncalo Marquez and Nuno Tavares set Vitoria on their way against a Littoral side beaten 9-2 by BSC Lokomotiv Moscow on Friday.

After a goalless second period, Tony Macripo pulled one back for the Belgian side, only for Paulo Neves, Marques and a Victor Frazao brace to wrap up the victory.

Group D

CSKA Moscow go into their Euro Winners Cup Preliminary Round finale firmly in the driving seat for progression after defeating KP Lodz 4-3 on Saturday.

The Russians did things the hard way however, building a three-goal lead after strikes from Alexey Kolbanov, Sergei Stepliani and Viktor Kryshanov only to let Gyongyos back in with a shout thanks to efforts from Peter Abel and Lucas.

Stepliani restored a healthy cushion for CSKA late in the second frame and, while Lucas’ second shortly after the restart gave Gyongyos further hope, they fell just short.

BSC Lansingerland gained their first points of the competition when they sealed a dramatic win against Vila Franca do Rosario.

Vila Franca took the lead through Marco Ferreira but were quickly reeled in before the break with a brace from Massimo Taviani.

Both sides continued to exchange the lead throughout the second and third period and, after Marcelo looked to have ensured extra-time, Taviani’s hat-trick goal with four second to play settled the contest.

Group E

KP Lodz took a big step towards the primary competition of the Euro Winners Cup when they edged out FC City 6-5 on Friday.

The Polish side now boast back-to-back wins in Group E in a tight contest that saw four goals inside the opening 20 minutes.

Veteran Boguslaw Saganowski got the only goal of the second period to send his side into what would prove a thrilling finale 3-2 ahead.

Aleksei Krisitikov, Krill Filippov and Andre Batista kept City’s hopes alive until the last but Saganowski completed his hat-trick while Pawel Friszkemut and Filip Gac were also on target as Lodz edged nearer to the competition proper.

Portsmouth BSC came up just short in the opening game of the day on pitch one as they fell 7-4 to Portuguese side GR Amigos do Paz.

Despite shipping 15 to KP Lodz on Friday, Pompey were much improved and trailed only 4-3 with nine minutes of the final frame to play.

However, second goals of the day for Lourenco and Esteves secured Amigos the points and kept their slim hopes of progression alive.

Group F

Levante clinched a dramatic last-second 4-3 victory against a shellshocked BSC Vitoblsport to bolster their hopes of qualification.

Enrique Moratal, Pablo Perez and Jose Santana Sanchez helped put Levante in a comfortable position only for two Kanstantsinau goals to bring the Belarusians back on level terms midway through the final period.

But with the last action of the game, Pablo nodded in a throw from goalkeeper Jose Marua Suarez to stun Vitoblsport and set up an enthralling final day in Group F.

Group G

CD Bala Azul qualified from Group G after edging a close-fought contest with Montpellier Herault Beach Soccer 7-5 on Saturday.

The Murcia-based side are three points clear at the summit after a four-goal haul from Spain international Chiky Ardil helped see off their plucky French opponents.

Montpellier did their best to stay in touch but fell short, with Fernando Gaisado and Pedro Acosta also on target for Bala Azul.

Adil Muftuoglu’s third-period strike gave Land of Legends Theme Park Alanyaspor a slender 4-3 win over CF Os Belenenses on Saturday.

In a result that saw Bala Azul qualify from Group G, Belenenses’ Ruben Frias scored twice to keep the Portuguese side within a goal midway through the contest.

Trailing 3-2, Alexandre Santos levelled, only for Muftuoglu to grab the winner seven minutes from the end.
