Draw takes place to decide InterCup groups

Russia and Kristall were drawn into the same group for the fourth consecutive tournament

A draw took place on Monday to decide the two groups in the 2021 InterCup.

The international tournament will be held at the Dynamit Sports Centre in St. Petersburg from 21 to 25 April. It will be the fourth edition of the event, the first one being held back in 2017.

The groups were decided as follows:

Group A: Belarus, Lokomotiv (Moscow), Delta (Saratov), Lex (St. Petersburg)

Group B: Russia, Kristall (St. Petersburg), Krylia Sovetov (Samara), CSKA (Moscow)

Kristall and the Russian national team have a long history in this tournament, as both teams have been drawn in the same group in every edition of the InterCup so far (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021).

The sides met in the previous two finals of the competition, each winning one, with Russia as the current champions. The other teams in Group B are Krylia Sovetov and CSKA.

In Group A, Lokomotiv and local St. Petersburg side Lex will take part in their first InterCup, and they were drawn alongside Belarus and Delta.

The head coach of Kristall, Angelo Schirinzi, said, “It is a good tournament with good teams. It is important to play again in the difficult times. I’m very happy that the InterCup can offer such a good tournament.”

The competition will kick off on 21 April in St. Petersburg and all games will be streamed live on the Beach Soccer Worldwide website.
