Gilberto takes part in Brazil’s Laboratory of Football Science

Coordinated by 1994 World Champion Carlos Parreira, the project will use scientific studies to improve teams’ performance

Brazil National coach Gilberto Costa, together with assistant Fabio Costa, will be one of the managers of an ambitious project by Brazil’s Ministry of Sports: the Laboratório de Estudos da Ciência do Futebol de Campo, Futsal e Beach Soccer (Laboratory of Studies of Football, Futsal and Beach Soccer Sciences).

This project seeks implementing a vivid knowledge exchange between experts, scientists and athletes with the objective of constantly finding ways to improve the perfomances in all these modalities.  

Carlos Alberto Parreira FIFA World Champion with Brazil in 1994 will coordinate the Laboratory, which targets “to leave a great legacy out of the pitch”, as he explained. 

In the presentation, held this Monday in the Parque Olimpico de Barra (Rio de Janeiro), Gilberto Costa highlighted the importance of applying the scientific studies to sports to achieve a better performance. 

Teams no longer win only thanks to the talent of their players. The process of investigation and study is key, as any scientific information is always a plus”, said the World Cup champion, who has been applying techniques to improve his team’s collective intelligence during the last seasons. 

The General Secretary of CBF, Walter Feldman; the Head of Grupo de Estudos da Ciência do Futebol de Campo, Futsal e Beach Soccer of the Rio de Janeiro University (UFRJ), prof. Luiz Antônio Verdini de Carvalho, the deputy-director of the Escola de Educação Física e Desportos of the UFRJ, prof. Angela Bretas and CBF’s Head of Social Responsibility, Sustainability and Technical Development, Diogo Netto, were also present in the official launch.
