Hungary qualifies for Superfinal; Poland and Spain lead Division A in Marseille

Hungary is as of today, regardless of the result between England and Belarus tomorrow, one of the teams of Division B to have automatically qualified for the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal. Hungary defeated newcomers in this competition England by a comfortable 5-3 in regular time. Hungarians knew this match was an all-or-nothing: securing the three points booked the ticket to the Superfinal. And they did not miss this chance. Hungarians were always leaders in the result of the match, managing to win by a +3 difference.

In Division’s A first match of today, Portugal and Poland played an intense and very competitive match. Both squads had big chances to win the game, but none of them managed to secure a big gap. After the regular time, both teams drew 3-3, so time for the extra time. No more movements in the scoreboard in this three minutes so both squads needed to solve it in the extra time. It was the turn for Poland, who started scoring, 1-0. Portugal went next and, although B. Novo managed to trick Polish goalkeeper, the ball hit the post and went out. That was it and second victory on a row for Poland, who now have 5 points.

Last match of the day showcased a big battle in the Plage du Prado in Marseille. 2009 ranking leaders Spain faced Eric Cantona’s France in the most interesting match of the day. Stadium was full of beach soccer fans cheering up the home crowd… but once again today, hosts didn’t manage to win La Roja. Joaquin Alonso’s pupils won today’s match by 5-4 after extra time and now lead the ranking of this French stage of the European Beach Soccer League with 5 points together with Poland. Match was close, with plenty of goal opportunities for both squads, and an amazing regular time final. Spain was leading 4-3, scoring one minute before end of the time. But France never gives up. 3 seconds left on the scoreboard and les blues scored to draw the match to 4. Home crowd turn crazy and game went to extra time. 3 minutes of beach soccer is a lot of time, and Spain knows. They scored soon again to lead 5-4 and that was it, no time for more. France continues without winning a match in this Euro Beach Soccer League.
