Inaugural Nigeria Beach Soccer League to kick off in Lagos

The action is set to begin this Easter with eight teams competing in the tournament

Beach soccer is heading back to Lagos! The city, which is one of beach soccer’s global strongholds, will host the first leg of the Nigeria Beach Soccer League organised by the Nigeria Beach Soccer Association (NBSA).

It is the first ever edition of the league, and the opening stage is scheduled to be played 3–5 April 2021, following the approval given by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Nigeria Beach Soccer Association (NBSA) is a new body, chaired by NFF Board Member Mr Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande and coordinated by Mr Mahmud Hadejia, President of the African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU), together with other Member Associations from Lagos, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kwara, Kogi, Edo, Plateau, FCT, Anambra, as well as other states.

The league will consist of four stages and locations across the nation, which already have existing beach soccer facilities: Lagos (April), Kebbi (May), Kwara (June) and Kaduna will host the Super finals in July.

The maiden edition of the league will feature eight teams. Kebbi, Kaduna, Kwara, Edo, Badagry and Lagos Beach Soccer Clubs have confirmed their participation, and others from Kogi and Anambra State have also expressed their intentions to participate.

A press conference, followed by a workshop and clinic for the teams and referees, will be held a day before the official kick-off date. Details on this will be announced soon.

Elegushi Beach in Lagos will host the first two days, while Landmark Beach will host the final day of the league’s first stage.
