Kristall and Catania to fight for Euro Winners Cup

The Russian, defending champions, will take the hosts after thrilling semifinals. Lokomotiv and Vybor will vie for the 3rd place

Penalty kick shootout passes sentence and sends Kristall to second consecutive final

Kristall Beach Soccer Club earned the right to defend their title in the final of this Euro Winners Cup after edging Lokomotiv Moscow in an amazing semi-final that needed extra time and penalty shootout to discern the winner. Five minutes into the game, Datinha already demonstrated what kind of high-quality game could be expected this evening, sweeping his side ahead with a magnificent goal. Peremitin balanced things back, but along came Llorenç, with two stunning hits, two get his side on command.

After that, Kristall seemed to have things under control, and kept sieging Bukhlitskiy’s dominions even more insistently than Lokomotiv. The Muscovite side needed some minutes to find their place on the sand of this DomusBet Arena. That moment came in the third period, when ‘Loko’ realized that the access to the final was slowly getting further and further, and geared up to prevent that from happening. One goal by Gorchinskiy in the opening of the period left Lokomotiv within one goal, and that was fuel enough to get them fighting until their very last breath for the equalizer. And just when the match was entering its last minute, Gorchinskiy hit again and sent the game to extra time.

After the additional three minutes, the score remain untouched, and the first of the finalists of this Euro Winners Cup needed to be sorted out from the penalty kick spot. And from the 9 meters distance, Kristall proved better aimed, firing home all their three shots, something Lokomotiv could not parallel, to see again their rivals from Saint Petersburg get to their second final.

Goldwin Pluss takes control late to earn spot in 5th place match

The 2-1 win for Goldwin Pluss Bodon FC over KP Lodz was too close to call until the final minutes, when the Hungarian broke a stalemate to secure the very tough victory and play in the 5th Place match on Sunday. Playing as high as fifth place in a Cup that included 28 teams at the outset is a grand accomplishment, and that is what KP Lodz and Goldwin Pluss had in front of them on Saturday evening. The Hungarian club, Goldwin Pluss, were the first ones to take a stride toward the 5th Place Match on Sunday, when Badalik slotted home the matches’ first goal. The Goldwin goal was the lone goal of the period and the first period ended with a score of 1-0 for the Hungarian team. Both sides looked just as driven as they were in the quarterfinal matches, which they both unfortunately lost in, but this match was a completely new game and the quality was still extremely high. The fast-paced action continued, without stoppage until Lodz scored the equalizer on a shot from Kucharski late in the period. The match headed into the final period tied at 1-all. No side held a distinct advantage in the closing frame with both teams getting nice looks on goal and taking chances, but early in the period, neither side was able to score. The drought of goals came to an end when Pachev slipped a shot past Lodz’s goalie late in the period and the 2-1 advantage was enough to carry Goldwin Pluss to the 5th Place match on Sunday, where they will take on SC Braga.

Goals: 1-0: Badalik, min. 11 (1); 1-1: Kucharski, min. 2 (2); 2-1: Pachev, min. 4 (3).

SC Braga clinches at least 6th place with clutch win

The 4-3 victory for SC Braga was the kind of match normally reserved for finals and not the consolation semifinals, but no one is complaining as the teams played their hearts out and the fans, players, and coaches alike could see that. The win puts Braga against Goldwin Pluss in the 5th Place match, set to take place on Sunday. There was no slip in play or disappointment from either of these teams as they both could have been playing for a spot in the finals, had things gone their way in their respective quarterfinals matches. SC Braga and Amrahbank were both eager to score the first goal and get on a roll, but it was the Portuguese club, Braga, who did so first, netting the first goal early in the opening period, which carried them to the second period up 1-0. The side from Azerbaijan did not stay quiet for long into the second period as they scored the equalizer on a shot from Asif and they began embracing the role of aggressor. The role suited them well as they scored the go-ahead goal midway through the match, the second of the day from Asif, and that put them up 2-1. The lead was short-lived as Ramacciotti scored his sides’ second goal. Less than a minute later, Amrahbank went ahead for the second time and the 3-2 lead did not make it until the break, with Ze Maria pulling Braga even again, this time at 3-3, which is how the score would stand going into the final frame. Closing out the match was the most important thing for both teams but as they scored the first goal, SC Braga scored the deciding goal late in the period and earned the 5th place match birth by a score of 4-3.

Goals: 1-0: Torres, min. 9 (1); 1-1: Asif, min. 10 (2); 1-2: Asif, min. 6 (2); 2-2: Ramacciotti, min. 5 (2); 2-3: Abdul, min. 4 (2); 3-3: Ze Maria, min. 2 (2); 4-3: Torres, min. 2 (3).
