Portugal to premiere Women’s National Championship this 2021!

The FPF announced the birth of the women’s competition, which will consist on a regional and a national phase

The Portuguese Football Association (FPF) have finally announced the creation of a women’s beach soccer national championship, to kick-off this same 2021 season.

The competition will consist on two phases. The first one will be played regionally, and the second one will be played on  a national scale, with the teams qualified from the different regions. A Final Four will decide the champion and will take place exactly the same weekend (7-8 August) and at the same venue than the Men’s National Championships.

The FPF beach soccer coordinator, Portuguese legend Madjer, highlighted the important step made this 2021. “We have been working to procure a sustainable and egalitarian growth, understanding there is a lack of women’s competition and formation in the modality. This is why we have set our objectives clear in our development plan“.

We are very confident in the future of women’s beach soccer in Portugal, because we have been acknowledging a lot of interest. We have great expectations for it“, he added.

In turn, one of the most relevant players in the Portuguese women’s beach soccer stage, recent Euro Winners Cup champion Mariana Filipa, insisted on the level of the players in the country and the important change the new national championship will bring. “Finally having an official competition is a very relevant thing, and it will definitely help attract more players. I think this will also bring the creation of a National Team as the next step“.
