Salou awaits the first battles of Europe’s top teams

The World Beach Games European Qualifier Salou is just one day away!

Thursday sees the start of the European Qualifier for the first edition of the World Beach Games, which will take place between 9th and 14th of October in San Diego, California.

The stadium is prepared and the sun is sinking low, ready to rise of a new era of beach soccer – the era of the World Beach Games.

All day the teams have been training on the sand, making last minute preparations for their campaigns to make it to the USA in a few months’ time.

And we don’t just mean men’s teams, as there are five women’s national teams fighting for two berths, yet another encouraging sign that the women’s game is growing worldwide.

This qualifier, however, will be battled out on the Mediterranean coast at the Sports Complex Futbol Salou, Spain. The competition will run from Thursday 9th until Sunday 12th of May.

Day one kicks off when Switzerland’s women take on the European champions Russia, and England’s ladies play Czech Republic.

In the men’s competition, Europe has four berths to the maiden World Beach Games, and the continent’s top sides will fight fiercely to get their hands on tickets to California.

For the team that finishes fifth here in Salou, there will be one final lifeline that could see them joining the four other teams heading to the States, as they have the opportunity to play the team that finishes third in the CONMEBOL for another berth.

Which four men’s teams and two women’s teams do you think will make the World Beach Games San Diego?
