Copa Lanus kick starts beach soccer in 2021 in Argentina

11 de Octubre claim the cup after seeing off Barracas Central in the final

After several tough months where beach soccer was on pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic in many corners in the world, the first events of 2021 see the sport taking off again in various countries, with regional and national championships already being played.

One of those competitions is the Copa Lanus, in Argentina, which involved six teams from Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and Bahía Blanca: 11 de Octubre, Barracas Central, Ferrocarril Oeste, Puerto Comercial de Ingeniero White from Bahía Blanca, Argentino de Rosario and CEF11.

11 de Octubre, mainly shaped by players from the Argentinean national side, prevailed in the final against Barracas Central, thanks to a stellar performance by Lucas Ponzetti, one of the stars of the “Albiceleste”.

Barracas Central, despite boasting international goalkeeper Sebastián Gómez Polatti in their ranks, could not do much against 11 de Octubre after brilliantly defeating Ferro, with Venezuela international Piter Rodríguez as one of their main players.

The activity in Argentina is set to continue, with national competitions set to resume again soon.
