Costa Rica and Barra de Santiago claim Copa INDES de La amistad in El Salvador

The Ticos beat their hosts in the final as Barra prevail in the women’s division

The Costa Rica national beach soccer team won the men’s division the Copa INDES de la Amistad this weekend, while Barra de Santiago took the women’s title.

The event was organised in Barra de Santiago, El Salvador, by the Instituto Nacional de los Deportes de El Salvador (INDES).

The decider between the Costa Rican side and Barra de Santiago was a see-saw battle in which any attacking breakthroughs provoked an immediate response from the opposing side, taking the final score to 3-3 midway through the last period.

Rivera’s goal for the hosts looked like the winner for Frank Velasquez’s side, but the Ticos star, Greivin Pacheco (the competition’s Top Scorer) added two more to his tally to turn the match around in dramatic fashion, sealing the win for Costa Rica.

In the fight for the third place, the Guatemala national team managed to earn their first win in the competition, and upset Garita Palmera with a final score of 9-6 to end the event in third.

Miguel González was the main protagonist for the Chapines with three goals, while Leandro Bachez, William Álvarez, Pablo Crocker, Lester González, Christopher González and Luis Carlos Saldaña also contributed to the win for Guatemala.

Barra De Santiago dominate women’s competition

Barra de Santiago’s Women’s side claimed the trophy in the women’s division of the Copa INDES de la Amistad, after going undefeated throughout the competition.

The hosts saw off Universidad de El Salvador on the last matchday to claim the title, following their earlier wins over Costa del Sol (7-4) and Garita Palmera (12-3).
