Peñarol make International Beach Soccer debut
Uruguay's top club, the 'Aurinegros' from Montevideo will be in Group B alongside Corinthians, Flamengo and Milan
Now is the time for Uruguay’s Peñarol, owners of three world titles (1982/1966/1961) in football, to participate in the III Mundialito de Clubes, which will be played between the 10th and 17th of November in Copacabana beach, in the south of Rio de Janeiro.
With a Beach Soccer section officially inaugurated, the nation's best beach soccer club comes to Brazil with the majority of the Uruguayan national team (whose best result was runner-up in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2006) including some familiar faces, the goalkeeper Diego Montserrat, Cabrera or Ricar, plus two foreign reinforcements: a pair of attackers Villalobos (Mexico ), Mundialito I champion with Vasco and vice world champion in 2007, and Fred from Brazil, who played for Boca Juniors on the last edition of the Mundialito. The 'Aurinegros' have everything to make a good campaign in Group B , but they will still face Corinthians (SP), Flamengo (RJ) and AC Milan (Italy). The matchup is already set: The 13th of November, against Corinthians, who banks on many players from their national team.
“Peñarol are a seasoned group, most of the players have World Cup experience. The third Mundialito will be very balanced, it may include perhaps the most competitive sides this tournament has seen, they are all strong and have everything to make a good tournament. Like all teams, starting on the right foot with a victory is extremely important, it's a short tournament and we need to think about one game at a time, playing within our means to get the necessary wins." said Fred of Brazil.
Peñarol Schedule for the III MUNDIALITO CLUBES go as follows:
Nov 13 - Corinthians vs Peñarol - 13:30
Nov 14 - Peñarol vs Flamengo - 16:00
Nov 15 - Milan vs Peñarol - 15:00
