Dubai: first-class home to Beach Soccer

Great success in Samsung Intercontinental Cup 2011 confirms UAE?s resort as one of the sport?s top hotspots around the world

Dubai was again confirmed as a top-class venue for the highest level sports competitions with this Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup. And, just as it was set clear two years ago, when brilliantly hosting the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2009, the UAE strongly restates their position as one of the homes to Beach Soccer around the globe. The best teams in the world, with the six continental champions, together with the brilliant red-hot World Champions Russia, and hosts UAE built this unforgettable first edition of the competition, offering an amusing contest and attracting huge crowds to the Beach Stadium at the Jumeirah Beach Residence.

Figures voice it loud: more than 46.000 people packed the stands during the thrilling 5-day competition, in which Russia confirmed they are still on the sweet vibe that lead them to clinch the crown both in the European League and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup last summer. And, as always, the taste of the sport’s pace and electricity was up to that expectations: 118 goals were scored in 16 matches.

Among the illustrious attendants to the event, H.H. Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, H. E. Mattar Al Tayer, vice chairman of the Dubai Sports Council and President of RTA, Dave Richards, Chairman of the FA Premier League or Sebastião Lazarino, Qatar Football National Team Coach and former Brazil National Coach wanted to enjoy the action live from the stands.

Joan Cusco, Beach Soccer Worldwide vice president wanted to highlight the satisfaction after the event’s success: “For us, coming to Dubai means coming home, after the great event they delivered with the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2009. So, we were more than happy to come back to the UAE with such an important tournament as the SAMSUNG Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup. We knew that Dubai would not let us down, and it did not. We just hope, and we are sure it is going to be so, that this first edition is just the beginning of a long-lasting history”.

With such a brilliant records, the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental is far more than accredited to come back to the sands of Dubai in the upcoming seasons, and this is precisely what the Dubai Sports Council and Beach Soccer Worldwide are working to turn into reality soon.
