“I will never forget the day I won the Best Player award”

Llorenç Gomez, the best beach soccer player in the world, up close and personal.

Llorenç is known across the beach soccer scene for his incredible skills on the pitch as well as his inspirational attitude towards the game, success and life in general.

In the past, the striker has played for many clubs, including Barcelona (Spain), KP Lodz (Poland), Tokyo Verde (Japan) and most recently Lokomotiv Moscow (Russia), as well as representing the Spanish team since 2011.

Llorenç was born on 3 November 1991 in Sant Cugat del Vallès just outside Barcelona. He now lives down the coast in Torredembarra, a local hotspot for beach soccer.

The number ten has three sisters and is also the proud uncle to no less than seven nephews and nieces!

Growing up he always aspired to work in football and trained hard both on and off the pitch to achieve the dream. “I studied to be a Senior Sports Physical Activities Technician and am also a qualified Level A UEFA coach. On top of that, I’ve learnt many skills by teaching myself, a perfect example being the five languages that I speak.”

How did the beach soccer start for the Spain forward?

“I suffered various knee injuries playing 11-aside football and a lot of my recovery I spent on the beach. This is where my love of beach soccer began. I’m so happy to be part of a world that has given me everything to this day.”

“What started as a hobby has developed in a lifestyle for me, and I have to say that Ramiro Amarelle was a big influence in the early days. His commitment was inspiring.”

Amarelle, arguable one of the best beach soccer players of all time and fellow Spaniard, actually presented Llorenç with the world’s best player trophy he received in Dubai last November. But winning the biggest individual award of all has by no means affected his outlook on life…

“I will never forget the day I won the award, but I didn’t do anything special” explains Llorenç. “I believe that in life there is a formula that is unbeatable: Complying with the minimum. Living and enjoying every moment as if it were the last. Take weight off everything and smile at life. Be a good person and want good for others. Dream big.”

“Like I say, I didn’t do anything special. Just the things I mentioned. On the pitch, never forget that I love what I do. That’s why it flows.”

And how does the world’s best player see his future in beach soccer?

“In life, we do not know what the future holds or what will happen for sure. If life permits, I will always help everyone who needs my help.”
