NEOM Beach Soccer Cup just a day away

The maiden edition of the NEOM Beach Soccer Cup is just a day away

Kick off of the first beach soccer in Saudi Arabia’s ground-breaking project is just hours away, as the players finish their final training sessions ahead of the NEOM Beach Soccer Cup.

The tournament will take place between Wednesday 17 and Saturday 20 July, and is split into two groups of three teams. In Group A, Saudi Arabia will battle against China and neighbours Egypt, while in Group B, the Cup’s only European side England will take on FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup attendees, UAE and Oman.

The first-place finishers of each group will then meet on Saturday to contest the first ever title in NEOM, while the teams finishing second will play for third, and the teams finishing third in the Groups A and B will battle for a fifth-place overall finish.

The ribbon will be cut on the brand-new beach soccer facilities on the Saudi Arabian coast when England, take on Asia’s number two, UAE.

The day’s second match will see Ramiro Amarelle’s China face their hosts, as Saudi Arabia prepare for their first test on home sand.

England and Saudi Arabia will then enjoy a rest on day two while Oman, last-minute replacements for Argentina who were unable to attend the event due to administrative reasons, and Egypt face their first test against UAE and China.

The event promises to be a pioneering step into Saudi beach soccer, and one that will hopefully return to the rapidly developing city for many years.
