The Copa Lagos to stay home or fly to Rio

Brazil and Nigeria will battle for the cup after bending South Africa and England and make their 6 out of 6

Brazil punishes South African efforts

Brazil only granted South Africa a bunch of minutes of balanced fight in their second game today before gearing up and crushing the Bafana Bafana expectations in the last stage of the game, in which a last four goal run made it 9-3. This result places the Canarinha at the top of the table and leaves South Africa with no chance to the trophy.

The match took a massive yellow color during the first six minutes, with Toinho, Buru and Captain Benjamin making it 4-0 before South Africa could even realize what was it that was knocking  them again and again. It was not until the end of the period that they could build themselves up a bit again, after M. Ndlovu sent the first South African chance in, finally voicing they were there.

His brother Nkosinathi took the baton, and brilliantly rocketed a free kick in for the 4-2 which confirmed the Bafana Bafana were set to reply the Brazilian dominion. This will was further proved when Deutschmann cut the distance again after Toinho’s 5-2. Unfortunately for them, though, Brazil found the most astonishing way to send the message that that was the end of the way for them. Buru, Benjamin and Bruno built an amazing aerial move, with the latter heading it in and turning it part of the Beach Soccer history. It was definitely one of the best goals of the season, and the first hit of a series that would kill the game before the second break, with Buru and Serginho raising the registers to 8-3.

The Brazilian number nine, one of the team’s new faces extended the advantage a little further in the last period, making it 9-3 and sending an unmistakable message to their biggest opponents in the tournament, Nigeria: If you want the cup to stay, you will need to fight it really tough.

Goals: 1-0: Toinho, min. 11 (1); 2-0: Benjamin, min. 9 (1); 3-0: Buru, min. 7 (1); 4-0: Benjamin, min. 6 (1); 4-1: M. Ndlovu, min. 3 (1); 4-2: N. Ndlovu, min. 10 (2); 5-2: Toinho, min. 9 (2); 5-3: Deutschmann, min. 8 (2); 6-3: Bruno, min. 6 (2); 7-3: Buru, min. 3 (2); 8-3: Serginho, min. 3 (2); 9-3: Serginho, min. 2 (3)

Green Eagles beat English resistance for a chance to the Cup

Nigeria found some problems in their second game in this Copa Lagos Beach Soccer 2011, as England offered a tougher resistance than the one expected by the Beach Green Eagles. Although they finally bagged a quite unmistakable score, it was never easy for Audu’s side to find the English weaknesses, and the points had not a clear owner until the very last stage of the game.

Only two goals pillared the Nigerian victory during the first two periods. At the end of the second time, only Tale’s and Olawale’s hits had managed to unbalance the score, in a match were England were showing a great determination and spirit back in defense. Unfortunately for the European side, their offensive efforts were not successful, and it was only Nigeria the ones to hit their net.

Things became clearer by the beginning of the third period, with Abu making it 3-0 and Olawale noting his name down again on the scorers chart little afterwards for the 4-0. The Beach Soccer Stadium in Eko Atlantic Beach turned into a dancing party, with everyone on the stands celebrating the chance of fighting one of the gods of this sport, Brazil, for the cup, an atmosphere Badmus contributed with the fifth hit for his side. With only three minutes remaining, England showed a bit of reaction, and Black and Funnell, with one of the best goals of the tournament, cut the distance to 5-2. But there was no time enough to get this reaction further and the points remained in Nigerian hands, securing the hosts the chance to battle for the trophy tomorrow against the “Reis da Praia”.

Goals: 1-0: Tale, min. 4 (1); 2-0: Olawale, min. 10 (2); 3-0: Abu, min. 10 (3); 4-0: Olawale, min. 5 (3); 5-0: Badmus, min. 3 (3); 5-1: Black, min. 3 (3); 5-2: Funnell, min. 0 (3)
